BETWEEN SCENE
THE BASICS: 5300 W. Lovers Lane, Inwood Village, next to Starbucks, 214-366-2910, www.betweenscene.com

THE CONCEPT:

The name says it all: It's the hangout for the celeb-crazy Disney set. "We designed it to be their store," says owner Mary Kubera of the brightly colored shop for 6- to 12-year-olds, outfitted with Guitar Hero, Xbox 360, purses made out of Jonas Brothers magazine covers and paparazzi-ready mannequins that look dressed by Hollywood-stylist Rachel Zoe. After moving to Baton Rouge, La., from Orange County, Calif., seven years ago, Kubera, a shopper turned store owner, opened the first BeTween Scene in Louisiana. The Dallas outpost is the second store nationwide. "Our customer lives in the Park Cities, they go to school around here," she says, while assisting after-school shoppers at her Inwood Village shop. "And shopping is what they like to do."

THE GOODS:

Clothes for future David and Victoria Beckhams. With labels such as Rock & Republic, DC, Ike Behar and 7 for All Mankind, BeTween Scene falls somewhere between Barneys and Delia's.

Closet Romance

BeTween Scene Boutique Opens

Your daughter’s infatuation with older men has you worried. Michael Kors? Donald Pliner?
Don’t panic; it’s the clothes she’s after.

She’ll fall fast for BeTween Scene, the new store packed with flirty grown-up labels in tween sizes (from seven to sixteen). Grab designer denim by Rock & Republic, romantic ruffles a la Cynthia Vincent, and Stuart Weitzman soles.

Baby sis? She’ll cozy up to soft knits by Splendid Little and Little Ella. Even the boys will swoon over skater-inspired threads and Paul Frank bikes. If those don’t win his heart, send him over to the Xbox play area while you shop.

Now that’s a perfect match.

BeTween Scene, 5350 West Lovers Lane, suite 126, Inwood Village (214-366-2910 or betweenscene.com).

FRISCO, TEXAS – October 13, 2010 – BeTween Scene, a one stop shop for Tweens ages 6-12, will open their 2nd retail location in the Dallas metro area. The Shops at Starwood is happy to announce the arrival of the trendy Tween store, due to open their doors in November of 2010. Tweens can browse designers like Rock and Republic, Ella Moss and Flowers by Zoe. Girls can explore the latest Tween accessories or step out in a pair of Amiana black crinkle leather boots. Guys can play Guitar Hero while checking out the latest fashions by Quiksilver and Element.

BeTween Scene opened its Dallas store in Inwood Village in December of 2008 allowing young Tweens to fit in during the “BeTween” stage. During the past two years, Between Scene has received much attention for their cutting edge fashion lines for Tweens including features in D Magazine’s “Best of D” edition and Dallas Morning News.

“BeTween Scene is an outstanding concept for that in-between age for Tweens and a perfect compliment to the other specialty stores in The Shops at Starwood,” states Kirk Hermansen of Hermansen Land Development and developer of The Shops at Starwood. “The addition of Between Scene continues our strategy for bringing only the best, one-of-kind retailers and
restaurants to The Shops at Starwood” continues Hermansen.

Other recognized tenants recently joining The Shops at Starwood include Pierce Decorative Hardware and Plumbing, Tupinamba’s Mexican Restaurant, Paper Affair and Ginny’s Underworld. BeTween Scene carves a unique mix of fashion and accessories for that fashion forward Tween. Other designers to look forward to include Juicey Couture, Un Deux Trois, and Roxy, along with a great selection of jeans by Tractor, True Religion and lots more.

STAR LOCAL NEWS

BeTween Scene trains young fashionista's

BeTween Scene, a store made specifically for boys and girls ages 7 to 12, is not just a location to buy the latest fashions. Instead, the customers are immersed in the styling process as models for the store and as fashion board members.

Originally opened in Baton Rouge, La. in 2005, BeTween Scene expanded into Dallas two years ago, and another location quietly opened in Frisco last week at 6959 Lebanon Road, Suite 101.

In continuing the tradition of using local shoppers as models, BeTween Scene in Frisco is holding a photo shoot from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. Screens around the colorful walls will display the pictures, showing real customers in the clothing and accessories found at the store.

“It’s all about fun for them,” owner Mary Kubera said.

Kubera really listens to the advice of her customers, albeit in the “tween” stage, by rotating girls in a fashion board. The girls from local schools, who know what they like to wear, assist in picking out clothing lines from photographs.

“They help us keep up with what’s hot and what’s not,” Kubera said.

Some of those “in” brands include Butter, Splendid and Ella Moss. Girls gravitate to the super soft texture of Butter hoodies as well as the soft, cozy pajama pants and pajama shorts found at BeTween Scene.

“It’s probably the hottest item in the store right now,” Kubera said.

Parents can avoid hearing groans about shopping from the boys with video games set up to entertain them. Kubera said she sees skater-oriented brands such as Element and Volcom becoming popular for their age group, and they even sell skateboards in the store. Typically, the “dudes” side of the story has the easier customers.

“Give them a hat, give them a beanie, and they’re happy,” Kubera said.

And while BeTween Scene aims to follow the latest trends, parents do not have to fret about their young children dressing in styles way beyond their years. Although the young girls want to mimic what they see teenagers wearing, Kubera said they keep the outfits age appropriate.

Look for a grand opening of the Frisco location after the holidays have died down. In January, a Mardi Gras themed party will pay homage to the store’s original Louisiana roots. They are also working on setting up purchases from the store’s website,
www.betweenscene.com.

“I love the store and what we do,” Kubera said. “This is such a fun age to sell to. Everyone tells us there’s nothing like BeTween Scene.”
